Today we discussed how to determine a subject in a sentence using the verb. We also took Quiz #3 for Warriors don't Cry and discussed the reading. To end class, we wrote Writer's Notebook #11, discussing a news story about some teachers over Halloween. We also turned in our practice Two-Voice Poems.

Today we did DOL #2, Quiz #2 and discussed the final project for this term. We looked at an example, annotated it, and discussed what we liked and didn't like. To practice the project writing style, we drafted a Two-Voice Poem from the perspective of two characters we liked for Writer's Notebook #10. You can type up that writer's notebook for extra credit next class.
Today we started our next round of DOLs, focusing on Subject-Verb Agreement. We read Warriors don't Cry and took our first quiz for the book. We talked about the reading as a class and then did a class activity to end class, annotating and discussing an article on the Pennsylvania Synagogue Bombing in October.
Today we wrote our Term 2 Book Report, a thematic analysis of the book. We also checked out our class novels and I passed out the reading schedule for the rest of the term. If you were absent, make sure you catch up in the reading. Quizzes start next time.
Today we took the vocabulary quiz. Then we read Clint Smith's "Your National Anthem" and discussed more backgrund about Brown vs. Board of Education and the desegregation of public schools and turned in the KWL chart.
Today I passed back your theme paragraphs from last time and then we did a writer's notebook. Today we started discussing the background behind the book we're going to read this term, Warriors don't Cry. We filled out a KWL chart about desegregation, Martin Luther King, and Brown vs. the Board of Education. Then, we started listening to this podcast called the sanitizing of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.
Today we continued our discussed of theme, topic, and main idea and wrote a practice paragraph to prepare for the book report. We continued to do activities to practice for the vocabulary test and continued reading our books for the book report coming up on the 16th (A) and the 19th (B).

Today we discussed prejudice and bias by looking at some editorial cartoons to analyze their bias and prejudice. We discussed the purpose of the cartoons and the perspectives of the creators to cement our understanding of the terms we studied last class. Get the analysis handout from the manila folders in class.
Today we discussed terms such as prejudice, bias, hate, discrimination , and bigotry. We defined those terms and discussed examples. We also played a game called "Refute the Stereotype" and turned in that handout.
