Today we did DOL #3 and watched a video for the writer's notebook. After watching the video, we responded to the prompt, which was, "Do you believe that Whitopia is an issue in our society or not? Argue whether or not you side with the speaker with examples. Discuss how Whitopia could potentially be a serious problem IF it were true. To end class, I explained the "Let America Be" Found Poem and we turned in our discussion papers for Langston Hughes's poem..
Today we did DOL 2 and discussed how America is doing today for Writer's Notebook #4. Afterward, we read Langston Hughes's poem "Let America Be America Again" and started discussing in groups the poem and its message.
Today we did DOL 1 and discussed the Battle of the Books. We proposed our books for the Term 1 book project (make sure that the book you propose is not on the list of books to not read. To end class, we turned in the "All the Books I've Ever Read" Assignment.
The question is not, "What did we do today?" but, "What didn't we do today?" Here's a rundown of everything we did:
I passed out hall passes and battle of the books booklets. We did a writer's notebook answering the question, "What does it mean to be American?" We took the disclosure document quiz and I did a book talk about some books that you might want to read for your first term book report. We turned in the writer's notebooks and our disclosure documents and then went down and took pictures.
Welcome! Hope your summer was awesome! Today we learned each other's names and did a get-to-know- you game. I passed out homework due next Monday (come talk to me to get the homework) and passed out disclosure documents. We'll have a quiz on the disclosures next time. Be ready!
