Welcome back to week #2!  Today, we talked about the Battle of the Books and I passed out the Battle of the Books pamplet.  People got into teams and divvied up the books they are going to read.

We also did our first DOL.  You'll want to make that up during Flex.  I won't post quizzes or DOLs to this site.  I explained how you score and get points on DOLs.

Finally, we finished the get-to-know paragraphs for our introductions.  We didn't start introductions; however, we're saving those for next week.  Make sure you turn in your partner paper fully completed.

You made it!  The first week of the year is over.  It is all downhill from here.  Jack agrees.

Today, we had our first book check of the term and I passed back your book proposals.  We took the disclosure quiz and I talked about class procedures.  At the end of class, we finished the get-to-know paper, but didn't turn it in yet because next class we will introduce each other to the class.  Keep bringing your book from here on out.

Day Two is in the Books!  Just wanted to tell you how excited I am for this year.  American Literature will open your eyes to diverse perspectives.  During today's class, we turned in our signed disclosure documents, but postponed the disclosure quiz unit Friday.  Make sure you've read the disclosure by then!  I passed out hall passes and explained them, talked about the seating chart, and we got to know names (which I'm hoping to remember a few for Friday.) :)

Also, I talked about one of your bigger assignments: the Term Book Review.  I did a book talk on four different books that I think that you should read.  Then, we did writer's notebook #2, which was proposing a book that you haven't read before that you will like.  I also talked about the kinds of books you shouldn't read.  Make sure you look at the disclosure document for more information.  Finally, you have
HOMEWORK.  You need to bring a reading book for next time (Preferably one of the two books you proposed to me today) to read.

Welcome to High School!  I hope that you had a great summer.  I had a really fun summer.  We went on week-long tour of San Francisco (I wish I lived there!) and camped on the beach in Carlsbad, California.  Both trips were phenomenal and got me excited for the school year and American Literature, honestly.

Below you will find a Word file of the disclosure document for your class.  In order to prepare for Day Two, you will need to read the disclosure and print off the back page so that you can get it signed and bring it back to class on Wednesday, if you are in A4, and Thursday, if you are in B6, B7, or B8.
