Today we did DOL 9 and took our second quiz for First They Killed My Father. Then we wrote Writer's Notebook #9 proposing the people you are doing your Vista Project with and the culture and activities you are researching. To end class, we discussed the chapters and finished the anticipation guide.
Today we took our first quiz for First They Killed My Father and discussed the first reading. We did a DOL and started discussion on our anticipation guide. Make sure that you bring the anticipation guide next time so we can finish it.
We wrote our book reports today and checked out First They Killed My Father. Pages 1-22 are due on Tuesday. Can't wait to start!
Today we did DOL #7 and we brainstormed the list of significant moments as a class in the "Red Bandanna" clip and wrote our summaries individually. Afterward, I taught the class the 3X Strategy, which I would like you to use on the second half of your book report, as well as how to cite you book you chose to read for this first term.
Today I taught the class how to write your summaries for your book review. Then we watched the E60 clip "The Red Bandanna" and wrote a summary of the clip. Also, we did DOL 6.
Today we did DOL 6 and took two different pretests (that took the entire class period.) We took a reading and writing pretest and then an ACT Pretest. The ACT Pretest was 70 questions and should have taken the last 45 minutes of the period. If you didn't take these, make sure that you come in and take them this week during flex sometime.
Today we discussed ethnocentrism more in-depth and then watched the following E60 Story and responded to the following prompt after watching: "Is Matt Sczcur ethnocentric before he donates his bone marrow? Is he less ethnocentric afterwards? What does it take for somebody to become less ethnocentric?" To end class, we filled out the assignment, "All the Books I've Ever Read" and turned it in.
Today we did DOL 3 and read "The Body Ritual among the Nacirema." We had a class discussion afterward and turned in the accompanying handout. Also, we discussed ethnocentrism and how it applies to the literature and people we will study this year.
Today we did DOL 2 and I showed the class an example Vista Project. Make sure that you email me for the example slideshow as notes on that slideshow is Writer's Notebook #4. We also had our first book check of the year. Start bringing your book to class.
Today we did our first DOL and I passed out Vista Projects packets. The signup sheet is available for this term next to the door. We discussed Vista Projects and then proposed the book that you wanted to read for first term. Reminder: Make sure that you've never read the book and that it is a book that is NOT on the "Do not read" list. If you are in honors, you either need to read the Battle of the Books book for this term or a classic novel from the class list.
