Welcome back! Hope you had a great Christmas Break! Just a reminder that Mr Mounteer will be your class teacher for Term 3. Make sure that you direct any questions or concerns about grades towards him.
Today we took Quiz #4 for All the Light We Cannot See (A1 and A3) and The Book Thief (A4) and then discussed the reading. Once we finished A1 and A3 went to the writing lab to start writing our historical narratives (I passed back your opening paragraphs from last time) and we presented Vista Projects.
Today we took Quiz #3 of All the Light We Cannot See (A1 and A3) and The Book Thief (A4). Afterward we discussed the chapters and started working on our opening paragraphs for our historical narratives (in A1 and A3) and started Vista Project Presentations (in A4).
Today we did DOL 21 and took Quiz #2 for All the Light We Cannot See (A1 and A3) and The Book Thief (A4). IN A1 and A3, we also started working on our opening paragraphs for our historical narratives. In A4, we discussed the Death and Chocolate close reading from last class period and turned it in.
Today we did DOL 20 and took Quiz #1 for All the Light We Cannot See (A1 and A3) and The Book Thief (A4). Afterward, we did a group activity. If you were in A1 and A3, we did a blindfold activity simulating Marie Laure's experience in St. Malo. If you were in A4, we reread and analyzed the prologue of The Book Thief entitled "Death and Chocolate" with a handout. Get these from the brown cupboards when you get to class.
Today we wrote our Term 2 Book Report in Google Classroom. If you missed, you must write it during flex before next Tuesday, November 21st.
Today we did DOL 19 (lime green) and we talked about the book report in-depth, outlining what is on the book report and what you can look forward to on Thursday. To end class, we had a class discussion (with a handout) on the topics we've discussed so far this term, including silence, indifference, and the single story.
Today we did DOL 18 and read a speech given by Charlie Chaplin from the movie The Great Dictator. We annotated the speech and discussed in groups some of the ideas presented in the speech and watched it. To end class, we finished our article annotations in A1 and A3 and finished writing our found poems in A4 and turned them in for points.
We did DOL 17 today and went to the computer lab.
In A1 and A3, we wrote our proposals for our historical narrative papers and did a KWL chart researching the events we proposed. The assignment due at the beginning of class next time is to print off one article to annotate in class and turn in your KWL charts.
In A4, we researched four different people that were victims of the Nazis and needed their story told. Then, I passed out copies of The Book Thief and we created Found Poems based on one perspective from those victims. You will need to come in and get that assignment from me as well as a Book Thief book to use to create your poem.
Today we watched "The Dangers of the Single Story" TED Talk by Chimimanda Adichie and discussed it in depth. Also, we discussed the final project for 11th Grade Honors. If you are NOT in honors English, we didn't discuss the final project. That will come later.
