I'm gone to the Bahamas until February 2. During that time, we are going to finish reading our Term 3 Reading Books and do a book report activity. We are going to annotate the poem Invictus and are going to write a reflection about our ACT writing samples, and then rewrite our ACT essay tests. We are also going to peer edit each other's ACT tests. Once I get back, be sure to have posted your reflection on Google Classroom and turned in your rewritten essay tests..

Today we discussed semicolon rules and I passed back your ACT tests. We discussed generally things to help each of you as your write your paper and then we wrote a example paragraph in class together and discussed how to evaluate the perspectives and still argue your claim. I've attached the example below so that you can use it as a real-time example of how to write a paragraph in a limited amount of time.
Today we filled out the rest of the KWL chart for the Oscar Pistorius case. We read one more article and we watched a few more clips and turned in the KWL charts. We also did DOL #5.
Today we finished our discussion of capitalization rules and did DOL #4. Then, I introduced our next topic of discussion: Oscar Pistorius. We watched a few different clips and filled out our KWL chart about him, Nelson Mandela, and apartheid. To end class, we read an article about Pistorius entitled, "Oscar Pistorius and South Africa's culture of violence" and annotated it. I'm currently grading your ACT Writing Test and just wanted to remind you to make sure you take the test before I've finalized your scores.
Today we continued our discussion of capitalization rules and talked about how to organize your essays on the ACT Writing Test. Then, we simulated the test. I gave the class 40 minutes to look at a new prompt and argue their claim, while recognizing the other perspectives. Make sure you make up the test if you missed it.
Day 44: DOL 10, ACT Writing Prompt analysis, and writer's notebook response (Jan 9 and 10)1/10/2019 Today we continued our discussion of capitalization and punctuation and did DOL #10. We also continued our analysis of the ACT Writing Prompt and finished the handout that we started last class. To end class, I passed out the ACT Writing Rubric and assigned reading it and analyzing what a 6, 4, and 2 score looks like and how they are different for the writer's notebook.
Today I passed back book proposals and we read for the first time this term. We started a new round of DOLs focusing on punctuation, and we discussed the Vista Project requirements for Africa. The last half of class, we started analyzing the ACT writing section in order to start preparing for the ACT Test in February.
Welcome back! We browsed some books that might be interesting to read for 3rd Term and proposed a book to read for 3rd Term. We also did DOL #8.
