day 5: Red Rising QUiz #3, 70s and 80s science fiction, and the osgiliath writing assignment (January 16)
Today we took Quiz #3 of Red Rising and discussed 70s and 80s science fiction. Then we discussed the moment in Red Rising where Darrow sees two men buying tokens to visit a virtual setting of their choice and started writing the assignment. That assignment is due next class period. You'll need to get the assignment from the manila folder near the door and take the quiz during flex or before or after school.
day 4: Red Rising Quiz #2, post coldwar science fiction, are you human TED talk, poster project (january 14)
Today we took the second quiz of the term and discussed post coldwar science fiction. We watched and responded to Ze Frank's "Are you Human?" TED Talk, and presented our fandom poster project. You'll need to take the quiz during flex or before or after school.
Today we took our first quiz for Red Rising and talked about the golden age of science fiction. To end class, we watched the Greatest Speech Ever by Charlie Chaplin and analyzed how it applied to the book. You'll need to take the quiz during flex or before or after school and get the Greatest speech ever handout from me.
Today we checked out Red Rising, our first book of the year, and I passed out the reading schedules. I also passed out Bingo sheets and we started taking notes on the history of science fiction literature. To end class, we watched the TED talk "What makes you uniquely human?" and wrote a writer's notebook about it.
day 1: Intro to Science fiction, What you geek out about, fandom poster assignment, and icebreaker bingo (January 6)
Welcome to Science Fiction and Fantasy! Today we wrote about what we geek out about, took a reading survey, and did icebreaker bingo. I also passed out the fandom poster assignment and disclosure document before class was over. You'll need to get those assignments that you missed from the manila folders near the door of the classroom. Also, turn in the writer's notebook responding to the video below.
day 39: Lost stars Quiz #10, Fanfiction opening paragraph edit, and episode IX writer's Notebook (May 8)
Today we took our last quiz for Lost Stars and turned in our books. We wrote a writer's notebook about what we want to happen in Episode IX and we read each other's opening fanfiction paragraphs and edited them. Next time will be a work day to write our fanfiction drafts.
day 38: Lost Stars Quiz #9, Finishing the Science fiction literature bingo sheet, and Writer's Notebook #9 (May 6)
Today we took Lost Stars Quiz #9, finished our discussion of science fiction literature, and wrote about our thoughts on The Last Jedi. We turned in the science fiction literature bingo sheet and finish reading Lost Stars next class period. We haven't written our fanfiction stories yet; we'll start those next time as well.
day 37: lost stars quiz #8, dystopian science fiction, and rey's origins article annotations (May 2)
Today we took Quiz #8, discussed dystopian science fiction, and annotated two separate articles about Rey in Episode 7.
Today we discussed the 7th set of reading for Star Wars: Lost Stars. We discussed Starkiller Base and then wrote our opening paragraphs for our fanfictions.
Today we took Lost Stars Quiz #6 and discussed the reading. Then we read an example fanfiction and discussed what it adds and explains in the Star Wars Universe. To end class, I gave the class time to finish their writer's notebook brainstorm of ideas for their fanfiction while we watched more fanfiction clips.
