Today we took Quiz #2 for Red Rising and discussed the origins of science fiction. We did a Writer's Notebook on why science fiction is important and then we started drafting ideas for our Laureltide song. Come get the instructions and handout from the absent work folders.
day 22: Term 2 and red rising quiz #1 and "The greatest speech ever made" (october 22 and 23)10/25/2018
Today we took our first Red Rising quiz and discussed the first reading. We watched "The Greatest Speech Ever" and annotated the speech and discussed it in groups. We turned in the handout at the end of class. Today we finished our literature circle presentations and turned in our books and hall passes.
Today we discussed contemporary fantasy literature and turned in our bingo sheets. Afterward, three groups presented their final presentations for literature circles. Next time, I announced that we would just finish the literature circles and postpone the series book talk until the first day of second term.
day 19: author's style discussion and literature circle final project presentations (Oct 10)10/11/2018
Today we discussed Harry Potter Literature and we had a table discussion about our literature circle books. The last half of class we worked on our final projects. Be prepared to present on Friday.
Today we finished the author's style powerpoint and turned in those notes. We had discussion day #2 and started working on our final projects for the literature circles. We'll start presenting final projects on Friday.
Today we discussed authors and our favorite writing styles. You will need to email me so I can send you the powerpoint. We didn't quite finish the powerpoint so you can stop taking notes at the the word choice slides. Also, we discussed the final project for your literature circles. Make sure that you're ready for Discussion Day #3 next time.
Today we reviewed the theme strategy and discussed our literature circle books. We also discussed themes in our books. Make sure you turn in a late pass with your packet if you missed today.
Today we discussed Theme, Topic, and Main Idea. You'll need to send me an email to get the notes that we took. We also discussed Quest Fantasy Literature and watched Terry Brooks's TED Talk "Why I Write about Elves."
