Today we started off class with Throne of Glass Quiz #2 and discussed the origins of fantasy literature. I read a few of the Dragons Final Projects and we watched a TED talk by reknowned fantasy author Terry Brooks about fantasy writing. We discussed the importance of fantasy in our writer's notebooks and did a quick activity to end class.
Today we took Throne of Glass Quiz #1 and turned in our final projects and went on our scavenger hunt. At the end of class, we finished the Choose your own Adventure story and had a Superfight. Extra Credit to Alexis, Fisher, and Max. Congrats you three! Thanks for all of the help from everybody! Today we took the final Dragons of Autumn Twilight Quiz #10. We discussed your final projects and I passed back your ideas for your final project stories. Then, we went to the computer lab and worked on those stories for the rest of the class period. Our final projects are due next class period.
Dragons of Autumn Twilight is almost over *sigh* and we are on to the final project. Make sure that you come next class period ready to work on your final project. I gave some ideas from the handout below and partners picked what they wanted to do. The final project is due next Monday, September 26th. Next class period, we are going to work on the final projects.
Today we took quiz #8 of Dragons of Autumn Twilight. We are almost finished with the book. Make sure that you make up any quizzes that you missed the day after you missed them. We did a choose your own adventure activity for your fellowships and added that story to the wrap-around story. Keep track of this story because you will end up turning it in. Also, just a reminder that your permission slips for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children are due Monday, September 19th. Today we finished our wrap-around stories for the Day Two Fellowship Activity and also took quiz #7. At the end of the class, we finished the Comic Con Presentations. Make sure that if you are missing quizzes that you get the quiz the next class period. Today I passed out permission slips for our September 30th field trip to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. You will need to get in the permission slip and pay for the field trip before September 24th in order to get a spot on the bus. We also took quiz #6 of Dragons and discussed how believable it was that the companionship fight the dragon without a real motive. We finished our Wrap-Around Stories and did a Fellowship Activity. We haven't yet finished presenting the Comic Con Presentations, but that is okay. Make sure that you make up the quizzes if you are behind. Today we took quiz 5 of Dragons of Autumn Twilight. We also turned in our character creations and did a group writing activity. First, we summarized how all of the characters at the tables in our class met together. Then, we created a wrap-around story of how it happened. We will finish next time. We will also finish Comic-Con presentations next time. Here is the writing prompt: ´Today, your fellowship meets. They need an origin story. In five minutes, brainstorm as a group how all of your characters first meet together. ´Write a Dragonlance-esque wrap-around story as a group about what happens. Be creative and detailed. Mimic Weis and Hickman’s writing style using explicit detail to show us what your characters look like and what their personalities are like. See chapters 5 and 6 of Dragons of Autumn Twilight Today we took quiz 4 and continued to discuss our character creations. Your homework was to find a picture of a character that represents your created character and finish the rest of the character card for homework. We ended class by starting our Comic Con Presentations. It was awesome! Comic Con! Comic Con! Comic Con! Hey everybody, I was gone to Day One of Comic Con today (the Mark Hamill Panel) and just wanted to let you know what you missed. We did Quiz #3 of Dragons of Autumn Twilight and you will need to make that up in class. Also, I passed out to you your character creation packets. I gave you the rest of the time in class to work on and finish your characters using the packets we've created. We will end up doing multiple assignments with you characters you've created in class. Have fun and be creative. I can't wait to see the finished product! Also, make sure that you bring your permission slip for Comic Con and that you are ready to present your Comic Con presentation to the class on Tuesday of next week.
