Today we did DOL #8 and created the magazine cut-out poem. A reminder that your book report is next class period (April 12--A and April 15--B).
Today we discussed more commonly confused words rules and did DOL #7. Then we wrote 7 more mini poems in the poetry wall walk. Email me for those poems.
Today we discussed DOL #6 and imagery. We took notes on imagery and then wrote our object poems. Make sure that you staple your notes to your drafted object poems.
Today we did DOL #6 and discussed symbolism. Then we wrote our fourth poem, the love sonnet. It was due at the end of class today.
Today we did DOL #4 and reviewed Satire, Irony, Parody, and Farce. Then I gave the class time to draft and work on your Love Sonnet. It isn't due until next class.
Today we took DOL #3 and did the March Madness Kahoot. Then we took the Alpine School District Survey and ended class.
We took DOL #2 and discussed similes, metaphors, and personification. Then we created a cross-out poem using one of those conventions. Get a page to create your cross out poem from me.
Day 64: DOL #1, Apocryphilia Poem, Alliteration and oxymoron, and the march madness presentations (March 14 and 15)
Today we did our first DOL of the new term and then discussed two conventions of poetry: alliteration and oxymoron. We came up with examples and took some notes for our writer's notebooks. Then I passed out the poem packet and discussed your next poem, the apocryphilia poem. We started presenting the March Madness brackets at the end of class and filling out our mock brackets.
day 63: The shard of memory Poem, writer's Notebook #1, and the march madness book activity (March 12 and 13)
Today I passed out a survey that all sophomores are supposed to take from the district. Then we discussed your first writing assignment for the term, a poem called "Shard of Memory." We brainstormed ideas on our writer's notebooks and then continued our work on the March Madness presentations. We will present next class period. I've attached the instructions for the Shard of Memory Poem below.
Today we browsed the books in our March Madness Tournament Bracket and researched 16 of them, writing down their star rating, how many reviews they've received, and what people have said about them in preparation for presenting them in a few days. Book proposals next time.
