Today we took DOL #3 and did the March Madness Kahoot. Then we took the Alpine School District Survey and ended class.
We took DOL #2 and discussed similes, metaphors, and personification. Then we created a cross-out poem using one of those conventions. Get a page to create your cross out poem from me.
Day 64: DOL #1, Apocryphilia Poem, Alliteration and oxymoron, and the march madness presentations (March 14 and 15)
Today we did our first DOL of the new term and then discussed two conventions of poetry: alliteration and oxymoron. We came up with examples and took some notes for our writer's notebooks. Then I passed out the poem packet and discussed your next poem, the apocryphilia poem. We started presenting the March Madness brackets at the end of class and filling out our mock brackets.
day 63: The shard of memory Poem, writer's Notebook #1, and the march madness book activity (March 12 and 13)
Today I passed out a survey that all sophomores are supposed to take from the district. Then we discussed your first writing assignment for the term, a poem called "Shard of Memory." We brainstormed ideas on our writer's notebooks and then continued our work on the March Madness presentations. We will present next class period. I've attached the instructions for the Shard of Memory Poem below.
Today we browsed the books in our March Madness Tournament Bracket and researched 16 of them, writing down their star rating, how many reviews they've received, and what people have said about them in preparation for presenting them in a few days. Book proposals next time.
The term ended this week. We had our final quiz, final discussion, and workshopped our final eulogies. See you 4th Term!
Today we read TFIOS and took Quiz #8 for the reading. We spent the rest of the class period working on our first drafts of our character eulogies. Just a reminder that the last day to turn in any late work for this term is this Friday, March 1, by 2:30 PM. Also, if you are participating in the Battle of the Books, the next Battle is Tuesday, March 5 for sophomores and Wednesday, March 6 for juniors.
Today we read and took Quiz #7 for TFIOS. I presented your final project for The Fault in our Stars, a character eulogy, and we brainstormed ideas for that eulogy in Writer's Notebook #13. Remember that the last day to turn in late work is this Friday, March 1. Any late work turned in afterward won't be accepted.
Today we read TFIOS and took Quiz #6. Afterward, we discussed the reading and read and annotated the poem, "A Certain Slant of Light" by Emily Dickinson. Make sure that you get that poem from me.
Today we took Quiz #5 for TFIOS and I showed the class an example of a well-written summary. We then edited each other's summaries and then workshopped our own. Make sure that you've sent me your summary so I can grade it.
