Day 2: Red Rising Quiz #2, Series project book talk, and the Laureltide song assignment (October 27)10/30/2017
Today we took Quiz #2 fof Red Rising, discussed the chapters, and started brainstorming ideas for our Laureltide songs from the reading today. Also, we finally presented book #1 from our series project and I discussed what that would look like at the end of this term.
Today we took Quiz #1 for Red Rising and discussed the origins of science fiction literature. Afterward, we watched a video and did a Writer's Notebook on what science fiction literature is all about. Today, all six groups presented their literature circle final projects and we turned in our Literature Circle books. Then, I passed out Red Rising with a bookmark of when the readings are due. You have a quiz the Wednesday after Fall Break.
Today we discussed the impact of Harry Potter literature on the Fantasy genre and we finally had discussion day #3. I also reminded the class that their presentations are on Wednesday, my dudes.
Today we turned in our packets for discussion day #3 and I showed the class an example of their final project. Then, we spent the rest of the class working on the final project. Your final project needs to be completed by next Wednesday, October 18, when we will present them to the class.
Today we rewatched the The Last Jedi Trailer and discussed what we are looking forward to in the movie in December. Also, we watched a clip from Fellowship of the Ring and practiced theme and topic in the story. Be ready for Discussion Day #3 next time.
Today, in order to understand the difference between theme and main idea, we discussed theme so that your final projects showed a correct understanding of topic and theme. We also watched the first The Last Jedi trailer in preparation for the second trailer coming out next Monday and our field trip in December.
Today we literally just talked about archetypes all day and took notes on them for the Writer's Notebook. We analyzed our 10 favorite characters in literature and talked about which archetypes they fulfill in their stories.
Today we discussed character types in literature and sprawling saga fantasy literature. We ended class by having discussion day #1 and turning in our packets for points. The next discussion day is this Friday, so you should be halfway done with your book by then.
