Today we took our second quiz for An Ember in the Ashes and I passed back your book series proposals. We discussed the origins of fantasy literature, which you took notes on, and started writing our "Gather the Fellowship" stories. Make sure that you take the quiz and turn in your character card to get points. Also, make sure that you purchase your wristband for Comic Con. May the Force Be with You.
Day 3: Quiz #1 for an Ember in the Ashes, Book series proposal, and partner activity (August 28)8/29/2017
Today we took Quiz #1 for an Ember in the Ashes and discussed the reading. We proposed our book series for the semester and finished class off by working on our partner assignment.
For homework, I passed out the character card assignment. That is due next class period completely finished. We will start doing activities with your characters then. Today we turned in our disclosure documents and I passed back your first writer's notebook and your Term 1 hall passes and we discussed classroom procedures. We talked about your book series project and I passed out your character creation assignment and we started working on that packet. Finally, we took pictures. Finally, we checked out An Ember in the Ashes and assigned you pages 1-42 for Monday. There will be a quiz. You will need to bring that book everyday to class because the quizzes sometimes have questions that you have to look up pages in the book to find the answers. Welcome back! Has it really been three months since we left?! Crazy. Welcome to Scifi/Fantasy Literature. I'm so excited for you. This is truly the best class ever. Just one caution: You will have to read 7 books over the course of the next four months. If you identify as a non-reader, this is not the class for you unless you are willing to change your paradigm. Unless you are willing to work. That being said, this is also the class we will go on field trips to Thor: Ragnarok, The Last Jedi, and Comic Con. Plan on spending $33 to go to Comic Con and about $10 to go to The Last Jedi. Those are required field trips. The rest are optional. This space is a place to get homework, missing assignments, and absent assignments. It's also a place to get a summary of we did each day if you were absent. Today we got to know names, did writer's notebook #1 (we watched the video clip below and talked about what we geek out about), and started doing the partner activity. I also passed out the disclosure document and told you to read it and get it signed for homework. It's due tomorrow. Can't wait to get started! |
