Today we discussed the origins and history of comic books and graphic novels. We had discussion day #2 on our Literature Circle books and turned in our Literature Circle packets. To end class, I shared some of your theme and main idea statements from the writer's notebook last time and we discussed how to refine those statements. Make sure that you turn in your packet if you didn't come today.
Today we started off class by talking about Comic Con. We looked at the website and reviewed panelists who will be there. We discussed sociological science fiction and talked about theme and main idea and the differences between the two. We took notes on topic, theme, and main idea and you'll want to send me an email if you missed so that I can send you the presentation. Today we discussed character archetypes. You will want to send me an email so you can get that presentation and take notes on it (as well as use it on the assignment we did for Discussion Day #1. For discussion day #1, we turned in our packets and discussed the archetypes in your stories. We turned in those notes, as well as the archetype assignment below. Today we talked about character types in literature. You'll want to send me an email so that I can send you that presentation. We also discussed Cyberpunk Literature. We got into our Literature Circle groups and did a writer's notebook on our favorite characters in all of literature. For homework, the groups needed to come up with their top 10 characters in literature and draw a picture of those 10 characters. I passed out the Comic Con permission slips at the end of class and we talked about what to expect when you go. Today I book talked the Literature Circle options. I passed out the literature circle packet and groups selected books and distributed the page #s and Literature Circle roles. Finally, to end class, we did Writer's Notebook #5, writing about our Top 10 characters in all of literature. If you missed today, you will need to get a Literature Circle packet, join with a group to get a book to read, get the book your group is reading, write down your roles each discussion day, and the page #s that are due each day. Star Wars Fanfiction Final Drafts, Star Wars Literature, and Lost Stars Quiz 10 (February 10th)2/14/2017
Today we took Quiz 9 of Lost Stars and discussed some final thoughts about the story. We also discussed time travel literature over the years and I explained what you needed to do for your final drafts. You will need to wait for me to edit your 2nd Draft by tonight and then make SIGNIFICANT changes between the 2nd and Final Draft. Also, you need to highlight the changes that you made on your draft. We discussed how my fanfiction ended and then we went to the writing lab and finished editing our second drafts so that you could share them with me. Today, I announced that we have been approved to go to Comic Con on March 17. The tickets will cost $20, which will pay for the bus and the wristband. The field trip is required for class and will be an amazing experience. We took Quiz #8 for Lost Stars, discussed the chapter, and discussed the literature of the 90s. Afterward, I showed the class an example Fanfiction story to help you understand what I'm looking for and then we critiqued it in Google docs. To end class, we went down to the writing lab and peer edited each other's papers. QUiz 7, 70s and 80s Science Fiction, and Draft #1 of your Fanfiction Assignment (February 1st)2/3/2017
Today we took Quiz 7 and discussed the science fiction literature of the 70s and 80s. We talked about the released title of Episode VIII and went to the computer lab. In the computer lab, we drafted our first draft of the fanfiction assignment. For homework, you will need to bring one copy of your draft to class so that I can see it and be prepared to peer edit your papers next time in the lab. Today we took Quiz #6 and discussed your final fanfiction assignment. We did a writer's notebook listing all of the untold stories that you think would be interesting to hear about from the movies, to the animated series, to the Star Wars legends stories, to Star Wars canon. We turned in the Writer's Notebook and I presented an Extra Credit opportunity to write a movie review of Rogue One. The review opportunity is posted below.
