Today we discussed the Civil Rights Research Assignment. It is a group assignment for those that attended today and an individual assignment for anybody who is reading this right now. Make sure that you get a paper from me describing the assignment. It is due the Wednesday we get back from Spring Break.

Today we did DOL #3 and did an activity called "Stand on the Line" to celebrate how similar we are even though we are all very different. Then, we did a Wall Walk where we continued to discuss prejudice, bigotry, bias, and racism. We also had our second book check of the term.
Defining "prejudice," "Bigotry," "Racism," and "Bias" and the Recitatif Discussion (March 23)3/28/2017 Today we did DOL #2 and defined the words above for our writer's notebook. Afterward, we finished our discussion on recitatif and turned in the discussion papers.
Today we did DOL 2 and talked about the danger of stereotypes. We read aloud the first 7 pages of the story "Recitatif" and had a discussion about the story and how it applies to stereotyping people. Attached is the discussion handout. The Writer's Notebook was to watch the video below and talk about how stereotypes can be dangerous.
Today we did our first DOL of 4th Term and went to the library to browse books to possibly read for Term 4. You will want to get DOL 1 from me, I've attached the book browse assignment. Next class period, you will propose a book that you'd like to read for this term. Then, start bringing your book to class every day.
